Garden Beds Overrun With Grass?
Cost: $50
One quick spray with Fusilade will rid your garden of grass
without harming your shrubs.
Lawns Overrun With Broad Leaf
Weeds?
Cost: $50
One quick spray with MCPA, Garlon or Kamba will eliminate the
broad leaf weeds but leave the grass unharmed.
Weeds Growing Between Your
Pavers?
Cost: $50
A spray with a mixture of Roundup, one of the broad leaf
specific herbicides above and Simazine will kill the weeds and
stop them growing back for several months.
Simazine is safer than other residual herbicides because it is
not moved around significantly through the soil by water and it
is not classed as a 'poison' in terms of legal labelling of
chemicals.
It is widely used by councils to maintain a mowing buffer
around mulched garden beds in parks and reserves.
Non Chemical Weed Control
Cost: subject to quote
This includes mulching and planting of suitable indigenous
ground covers that can very effectively suppress the re-growth of
weeds.
Ongoing Weed Management
Cost: subject to quote
These services can be packaged together with ongoing general
garden maintenance. With an appropriate management plan in place
it can require as little as a few visits per year to keep the
weeds at bay.
This is far better than having to manually weed the garden
beds or lawn every second weekend during the growing season. You
can have an attractive weed free garden that your
neighbours will be jealous of.

This service is limited to jobs that
do not require major earth works, construction, paving and brick
work.
I prefer to use natural materials such as
boulders and fallen branches etc to construct garden edging,
features and even paving. My landscapes have been described as an
Australian garden at its best.
Paving and stepping stones using natural
basalt (and other types of rock) slabs is a speciality. The
following example has a healthy growth of Dichondra repens or
Native Kidney Weed growing between them. Dichondra is an
alternative to conventional lawns for shady areas.

So if you would like a garden that
is unmistakably Australian with a small budget then I may
be the man for the job.

Given that native grasses are not yet
available as instant rolled turf, a local native lawn must be
planted from cell trays or sown from seed.
A lawn planted from cells:
- Will establish faster and give you a
reasonable cover in a shorter period of time.
- Will require less rigorous weed
management.
- Is more expensive.
A lawn sown from seeds:
- Is less expensive up front.
- Will establish slower and require longer to give you a good
cover.
- Will require more rigorous weed
management during establishment.

If you have purchased or are intending to
purchase a hobby farm or large house block in a semi-rural area
then you will undoubtedly be faced with the prospect of
revegetating the property as part of the 'net gain' (in
indigenous vegetation) policy of the Victorian state government.
I can ease the burden for you by
undertaking some or all of the revegetation work for you. You
will have no hassles with:
- Selecting appropriate indigenous plant
species.
- Sourcing the plants from the correct
provenance.
- Finding the appropriate indigenous
nurseries.
- Determining if tree guards
and jute mats etc are required.
- Watering and weeding around the plants
during early establishment.
- Replacing any losses to ensure you meet
your 'net gain' obligations.

With hobby farms and large house
blocks in semi-rural areas you may also be faced with the
prospect of controlling noxious weeds and halting erosion in
gullies and creeks.
With a site visit and an annual
budget to work within I can prepare a revegetation plan
specifically tailored to your small rural property. This will
include:
- Identification of noxious weeds
and appropriate control methods.
- Feral
animal control.
- Determination of the best
methods to reduce erosion.
- Appropriate indigenous plant
species to use for revegetation.
- Scheduling of the various works
required.

The subjects that I feel most passionate
about are:
- How indigenous plants can be used to
create an attractive garden.
- How to maintain indigenous plants in
order to get the best out of them.
- Exotic and alien Australian native plants
and environmental weeds.
- Applying ecological principals to
gardening.
