Political

These are the biggest and most daunting environmental issues of our time. Many of you may feel intimidated by these issues and feel that there is nothing they can say to contribute to the debates.

But western civilization cannot undergo a major transformation unless individuals within it are prepared to contribute some small change in their lifestyle.

For example, if 21 million Australians refuse to purchase processed food from overseas sources tomorrow then this would result in a massive reduction in Australia's petrol/diesel consumption. More localised production of processed foods will be encouraged, local jobs generated, one part of our food supply systems will be less dependant on dwindling oil supplies, our greenhouse gas emissions will be significantly reduced along with our contribution to global warming.

Many would regard my strong views on these issues as profoundly pessimistic. On the contrary, I am highly optimistic that we and our children and our grand children can have a bright future, albeit with some considerable transitional pain.

But that bright future is by no means guaranteed unless ordinary Australians break free of their current mindset, born of years of economic indoctrination, and start asking the right questions and debating those issues at the very core of our problems. I have little doubt that it will become increasingly clear that the current debates raging between politicians and members of the general public, over fuel prices and how to fill the skills shortage, are trivial side shows compared to those problems that are sure to become apparent before long.

Sustainable Society

In this forum you can discuss all aspects of sustainability including zero net population growth, curbing profligate and wasteful consumption and the 'steady state' economy (CASSE), as opposed to the 'growth' economy.

Global Food Crisis

This problem has only recently come to light. In this forum you can discuss the reasons why we are running out of food and how we might be able to solve it.

Peak Oil

Few people realise how extensively and critically dependant on oil our civilisation has become and how devastating unaffordable petrol and diesel prices will be. In this forum you can bravely discuss this huge issue.
